Brammer Buck & Hickman Stand up to Health & Safety with Exciting New Initiative from Insite™ Manager

 

With health and safety, a key concern for companies in manufacturing and engineering, when Insite™ Manager Tim Hudd approached the Brammer Buck & Hickman Health & Safety Team with an exciting new initiative, we listened intently. The result, we are delighted to announce, is the arrival of a new set of safety briefings under the title of 'Safety Stand-up'.

 

Tim had originally written a series of Tool Box Safety Talks for his team on site, that he brought to the QHSE Team. They were really impressed with his initiative and the content of his talks and teamed him up with our Health & Safety Officer, Kelly Rush. Tim and Kelly developed them into a whole new set of safety briefings under the Safety Stand-up banner to help raise awareness of safety issues and encourage discussion on how to prevent accidents in the workplace.

 

Safety Stand-up is a voluntary five-minute event for colleagues to stop what they are doing and to discuss safety. It involves everyone across the business taking time away from their usual activities to come together and discuss important health and safety topics, with the goal being to reduce work related accidents to zero.

 

These monthly, informal meetings are to help us focus on ensuring all employees are educated in safety, the company’s expectations, and their personal responsibility for keeping themselves and colleagues safe and healthy within the workplace.

 

With all the snow and freezing weather we’ve been experiencing, the first Safety Stand-up is on adverse weather conditions. Poor weather brings a substantial increase in the number of accidents, both on the roads and around the workplace, from skids and slides, slips and falls, to being struck by something blowing in the wind. With forethought, care and planning these accidents can be avoided. ‘Safety Stand-up: adverse weather’ provides advice on vehicles and driving, working outside or on site, and personal safety. It provides clear, easy to understand and implement guidance that everyone in the company can benefit from.

 

With a background in oil, gas, utilities and mining, Tim has worked in some of the most dangerous environments in the world, so this initiative is close to his heart and is a clear reflection of him owning and acting upon a great idea!
